This central Toronto home had a small kitchen with an eating nook at the rear. This family with two children needed more living space for everyone. The renovation involved gutting the existing kitchen and constructing a rear addition consisting of a new maple kitchen, eating area, family room, side entrance and second floor Master bedroom with ensuite.

Three-quarters of the exterior wall of the addition is brick, which is capped with a continuous stone sill and has stucco above. This gives the rear elevation an elegant proportion, while allowing the roof of the main floor bay to rest naturally against the brick wall.
